James Dewells Scott, 47, was arrested yesterday after grabbing a 13-year-old near the intersection of S. Main Street and SW 4th Avenue.

At about 8:00 p.m. last night, Scott, who is listed as homeless on the arrest report, allegedly grabbed a 13-year-old and said, “I’m going to bring you back to my house.” The victim reportedly backed away from him, deployed pepper spray in his direction, ran to a safe location, and called 911.

A Gainesville Police Department officer made contact with Scott about an hour later in the same location, and Scott allegedly provided a false name and date of birth. Once he was placed in handcuffs, he allegedly began resisting by ignoring commands to stand up, trying to remove the handcuffs, and pulling away.

Scott has been charged with lewd and lascivious behavior against a victim under 16 years old, providing false identification to law enforcement, and resisting arrest. He is being held on $65,000 bond.
