A letter to our readers

If you value what we do here, please help us keep going by setting up a monthly donation.

We all know that the news business is changing. The print model isn’t working, and it’s difficult to monetize an online model, especially in a small market. If we spend our days trying to sell ads, we will have less time for reporting. We could put the content behind a paywall, but one of our goals is to inform voters about what’s going on in local government, so we’d prefer not to go in that direction.

We focus on Gainesville and Alachua County, and that means we’re not going to get hundreds of thousands of views, but if just 20% of the visitors to our site gave $10/month, we’d be in great shape. Anything above that could go to paying more reporters so we could cover more meetings and spend more time doing investigations.

If you own a business that values our common-sense, pro-business reporting on local government and can make a larger monthly donation, we’d be happy to run ads for you. Just contact us at info@alachuachronicle.com. (We will stop running Google ads soon because they don’t pay enough to justify how intrusive they are.)

The positive feedback we get is very gratifying, but we can’t do this for free forever. Right now, all donations are going to boosting our posts on Facebook to attract new readers. If you like what we do, send us money, share our articles, and tell your friends about us.

If you’re not comfortable with giving online, checks can be made out to Alachua Chronicle and mailed to PO Box 344, Alachua, FL, 32616.

However, if you set up a recurring donation with PayPal, you don’t have to remember to send it every month. You can change or cancel a recurring donation any time in your PayPal account settings.

Also, sign up for our newsletter in the box below to make sure you don’t miss anything. We only send out an email when there’s a new article.

If you’re already sending us money, THANK YOU!!
