Alachua County Independence Day Schedules and Waste Collection

Press release from Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Other than emergency services, all Alachua County government offices will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2022, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Due to the observance of Independence Day on Monday, July 4, residential curbside collection services for solid waste, recycling, and yard trash will be delayed one day for the entire holiday week. The regular schedule for these services will resume the following week on Monday, July 11.

The five Alachua County Rural Collection Centers, the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station, the Hazardous Waste Collection Center, and the Office of Waste Collection will also be closed on Monday, July 4. They will reopen on Tuesday, July 5.

For more information, contact Alachua County Solid Waste & Resource Recovery Director Gus Olmos at 352-338-3233.

The schedule of Alachua County Animal Resources and Care will not be affected by the Independence Day holiday. They are reminding the public that there is an emergency intake shutdown in effect. Due to crisis-level overcrowding, owner surrenders and strays will not be accepted until further notice. The shelter and offices will be closed on Monday, July 4 (their regular schedule).

Visit the Animal Resources and Care website to see the selection of shelter pets awaiting adoption. The website also has information on fostering and other volunteer opportunities. The shelter is open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
