Alachua man arrested for hitting neighbor in the head with a baseball bat
Staff report
ALACHUA, Fla. – Gordon Frank Dixon Sr., 65, was arrested yesterday for allegedly hitting a neighbor in the head with a baseball bat, causing significant bleeding.
At about 8:17 p.m. on September 11, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 19200 block of NW 62nd Avenue, where the victim and her boyfriend said Dixon had walked over from his property, carrying a baseball bat, to argue with them about the property. The victim’s boyfriend said that when Dixon got close, he stepped between Dixon and the victim, and Dixon pushed him; he said the victim hit Dixon in the torso with a 2×4, and Dixon hit the victim on the head with the bat.
A deputy reported that the victim suffered an open wound on her head with significant bleeding, and she was transported to an emergency room.
Post Miranda, Dixon reportedly said he had walked over to the neighboring property because of a dispute about the property, and he brought the bat to defend against a dog. He said he was arguing with the victim and her boyfriend when the victim’s boyfriend approached him, so he pushed the victim’s boyfriend away. He reportedly admitted to hitting the victim with the bat.
Dixon reportedly said he had some chest pain, so he was also transported to an emergency room for evaluation.
Dixon has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He has a misdemeanor conviction (non-violent) from 1982 and three criminal traffic convictions between 1984 and 1991. Judge Mitchell Bishop ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
