Animal Resources hosts annual Summer Lovin’ Adopt-A-Thon
Press release from Alachua County
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alachua County Animal Resources invites the community to join in the annual Summer Lovin’ Adopt-A-Thon on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Animal Resources shelter (3400 NE 53rd Ave., Gainesville).
All adoption fees will be waived for the day, giving families the chance to bring home a new dog or cat at no cost. Each adopted pet will also go home with up to $600 in care and supplies, including vaccines, flea treatment, heartworm testing, a microchip and a collar. All pets will also be spayed and neutered at no cost.
This year, Animal Resources is teaming up with the University of Florida student chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians to help clear the shelter and open space for more animals who need a safe place.
“We’d love to see families, students, and neighbors come out to meet these amazing pets,” said Animal Resources Director Julie Johnson. “Our hope is to see over 100 wagging tails and purring kittens heading home with their new people.”
Animal Resources will close early on Friday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. to prepare for the event.
Adoptions are first-come, first-served. Adopters must be at least 18 years old and show photo ID with proof of address. Households with other pets should bring proof of current rabies vaccinations and licenses.

The Only Reason Animal Control does this every yr, is for the UF Students!😢
So at the end of the School yr, the students can turn back in the animals! And Go on their merry way out of town! Pets are like family, try taking them with you, on your way out of town! This yr!😳
Please clarify.
Do you have proof of this or is this just a feeling?
