Arrest made in Thomas Smith homicide case

On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) detectives located and arrested Jovante Deometre Jackson (DOB: 03/03/1993) in connection to the murder of Thomas Jamal Smith, which occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 7, 2021.

GPD detectives are still actively investigating this case, following up on leads, collecting and evaluating evidence.
