Press release from Florida Department of Education

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Center for Education Reform (CER) released the 2025 Parent Power! Index, ranking Florida number one on the index for the fourth year in a row. The Parent Power! Index analyzes educational opportunities by state and evaluates the policy landscape in each state for school choice and support for flexible learning models.

“Florida is—yet again—ranked #1 on the Parent Power Index by the Center for Education Reform,” said Governor Ron DeSantis.

“Florida is leading the nation in school choice, placing the power back into the hands of parents, where it belongs,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “Once again, Florida is at the top of the Parent Power! Index because of our commitment to providing maximum choice to Florida parents.”

In addition to Florida’s number one ranking on the index, CER also ranked Florida:

  • #1 for Transformational Learning
  • #1 for Charter Schools
  • #1 for Choice Programs

Florida has also ranked #1 for Education Freedom by the Heritage Foundation and the ALEC Index of State Education Freedom. Additionally, Florida ranked #1 on the EdChoice Friedman Index and ranked #2 for Education overall by U.S. News and World Report.

  • The Center for Education is an organization that promotes charter schools and opposes public schools, so yeah, we get why Florida is their favorite.
