City of Alachua hires new Public Information Officer

Press release from the City of Alachua

ALACHUA, Fla. – The City of Alachua has hired a new Public Information Officer (PIO), Brent Lanier.

Lanier has an educational background in Public Relations. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida, along with an Undergraduate Certificate in Public Affairs. Lanier furthered his education at Florida State University, where he obtained a Master of Public Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Public Financial Management.

  • Maybe somebody who has also studied at FSU won’t blindly follow along with the “old guard” in Alachua(?)

  • Only one question: will he continue the city practice of stonewalling public records requests? If no, great. If yes, he is a worthless hire to cover up city hall doings and attempt damage control. Time will quickly tell.

    • Make a formal complaint to the state attorney in your area (state attorneys are empowered to prosecute suits charging public officials with violations of the Public Records Act).

  • Run, Brent. RUN! Reach out to Kyler Burk to see why he left after less than two years in this gig.
