City of Alachua wellfield update nearing completion

Press release from City of Alachua

ALACHUA, Fla. – The City of Alachua is nearing completion of the Water Quality and Resiliency Improvement Project, which will include a new wellfield and additional infrastructure to service community members.

This project includes a new supply production well, capable of producing one million gallons of water per day. Once complete, the new wellfield will also contain a treatment facility that is the first of its kind in the state of Florida, along with an operating facility, yard piping improvements, electrical backup, and other associated infrastructure improvements.

“This project is a direct result of the forward-thinking mission and vision of the City Commission, and it will propel our community into a new season of redundancy and reliability for the City,” said City Manager Mike DaRoza. “Operating at this level of proactivity echoes our continued commitment to providing a top-quality level of service to our citizens.”

Not only does this project prepare the City for future growth, but it also provides geographical redundancy and dependable access to clean water. In 2017, Hurricane Irma brought about residual impacts to the City’s potable water sources. This project will protect the City’s drinking water supply and will establish a new level of resiliency in the event of future extreme weather events or other potential water quality impacts.

The Water Quality and Resiliency Improvement Project is currently expected to be completed by mid-to-late 2025.

  • All these “feel good” “Alachua is the greatest” press releases. Must be an election coming up and of course we need to reelect the incumbents because they are doing such a great job. Of course there are no articles about Alachua because the cartel of good ole boyz sacred off the local press and they do no articles about the crooked development known as Alachua. Sad.

JC you can skip the knee jerk “if you would donate I could cover my hometown.” I cannot give money to someone who has their politices firmly in MAGAland. It would be like supporting it.

I do commend you for allowing comments on press releases from governments. I wish you would allow comments on press releases from businesses and such. Some of them have inaccuracies or outright lies which should not be allowed to stand.

  • Gonna be hard to permit all that future growth when you have no planning staff. Or will they just let it all be rubber stamped?
