Staff report from ASO social media post

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are at the Eastside Food Store (3423 SE Hawthorne Rd), investigating an armed robbery that occurred just before noon.

The business reported that two black males, wearing all black and black ski masks, entered the store, one armed with a handgun, and demanded cash. Both suspects fled on foot in a southbound direction.

Residents in the area are asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious person(s) to the 24-hour communications center at 352-955-1818 (option 5).

The scene is very active with K-9 Deputies on an active track and an Alachua County Fire Rescue drone unit assisting with aerial support.

  • Those of you wondering why there’s a “food desert” on the East side…stop. It’s because of things like this.

  • Somehow I don’t think they were imitating Robin Hood & his merry men to share the wealth. Just felt like robbin’ their own ‘hood to fix their own bad habits. Unfortunately, there’s some who will likely choose to blame others.

  • This seems to be a high crime area. I suggest the Sheriff’s Office establish a substation within a quarter mile of this area and staff it 24/7 with cops and SWAT teams and armored tanks and machine guns, an army of cops to stop this stuff. How about it, Sheriff Clovie v2.0?

  • Pay attention City Commissioners! Might want to reconsider spending taxpayer money to develop business on the Eastside. Unless of course it comes with an armed city ambassador and a bullet proof vest.
