The Gainesville Amateur Radio Society invites the public to a free presentation on Saturday, September 5th, at noon at the Headquarters Library in downtown Gainesville for an interactive look back at the evolution of radio communications.

Attendees will trace the story of radio history—from Marconi’s early discoveries and the Space Race breakthroughs of the 1950s to the advanced digital modes, satellite tracking, and global internet-linked networks used by operators today.

The event will also highlight the critical role ham radio operators play during emergency situations when severe storms knock out cell towers, internet infrastructure, and local power grids—including real-world accounts of how amateur radio stepped in when 911 lines went down during Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.
