Fire crews extinguish commercial vehicle fire on I-75 despite challenges
Press release from Alachua County Fire Rescue
MICANOPY, Fla. – At about 2:06 p.m. today, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Windsor Fire Rescue responded to the 375 mile marker on I-75 southbound for a commercial vehicle fire.
The first unit at the scene gave an initial report of a semi truck pulling a box/shipping container on fire with 50% involvement. Crews were met with multiple challenges, including heavy fire load, water supply, and manpower. After nearly two hours and multiple pieces of heavy equipment, crews were able to extinguish the blaze with no injuries to the public or fire rescue personnel.
The fire is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. ACFR would like to remind everyone to slow down and move over a lane for emergency crews operating on the highway.
Saw this fire from the air, something in that container was both flammable and a persistent source of fuel. Second truck container fire along that stretch in the last month.
