Staff report from Alachua County Fire Rescue release

ALACHUA, Fla. – At about 11:25 p.m. on June 24, fire crews and law enforcement responded to a semi fire on I-75; there were no injuries associated with the incident.

Crews from Alachua County Fire Department and Lacrosse Fire Department and officers, deputies, and troopers from Alachua Police Department, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Highway Patrol responded to a commercial vehicle fire at mile marker 395 on I-75.

The first crews to arrive found a tractor trailer with significant fire involvement to the tractor and flames extending into the vehicle. Crews made an aggressive attack to stop the fire, but it took several hours to extinguish the fire completely because the trailer was fully loaded with general merchandise.

There were no injuries because the driver was able to safely pull over and get out of the tractor before flames reached the driver’s compartment.
