Four juveniles arrested following Carver Gardens shooting

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers and an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) deputy worked together to apprehend four juveniles following a drive-by shooting last night at Carver Gardens, 1101 SE 15th Street.

Multiple GPD units responded to Carver Gardens after receiving calls that people were shooting inside the apartment complex. An ASO Deputy was flagged down near Carver Gardens and saw the suspect vehicle fleeing the area. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it fled.

The deputy pursued the vehicle, and the pursuit ended at 1900 SE 13th Place, where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot; the vehicle crashed.

After information was provided by witnesses and a K9 track was initiated, four subjects, all juveniles, were detained at 1228 SE 19th Terrace. One of the juveniles was identified as the shooter, and one was identified by the deputy as the driver of the vehicle that fled.

While law enforcement was investigating the incident, the vehicle was reported stolen. Eighteen shell casings were collected in the parking lot at Carver Gardens. No shooting victims or bullet impacts have been identified at this time, but the investigation is continuing.

The juvenile identified by the deputy has been charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest. GPD did not provide the charges for the other three juveniles.

  • Could be your neighborhood, your neighbors, your family being shot at next.

Maybe this will help community leaders get a clue…these youth don’t care what they’re told. They don’t care who they’re going to hurt. This should have been fixed a long time ago. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.

Until they’re taken care of, you better, if you’re legally permitted, be prepared to protect yourself and your families. LEOs are busy and we’re not even through the 1st week of January.

  • Anyone want to bet they get their wrist slapped instead of prison for illegal gun possession and aggravated assault? That is not how to solve ‘gun violence’.

  • The education system and their parents are failing these future thugs. Instead of teaching them about all the genders, that gay marriage is k, tec., the school system should teach them about all the opportunities we have to be successful and not to commit crimes, it will make a big difference in their lives.

  • At this point it’s getting ridiculous the police and judicial system needs to start changing these young men that choose to act lawless and have no rearguard for human life as adults and make them suffer real adult prison time Drive by’s kill innocent people Law’s have to get stiffer and an example has to be made

      • Kenny…”Rearguard” – the device used by some with the hope of protecting their back end from sudden, and at times, violent intrusion.

        At least it sounds good.😂

  • Please get these fine young men some “affordable housing” (f.k.a. the projects, f.k.a. the slums) in my neighborhood, that’d be just splendid 👌
