Free Kitchen Caddies available for Alachua County residents
Press release from O-Town Compost
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – O-Town Compost will distribute free 2.5-gallon Kitchen Caddies to residents at Alachua County Rural Collection Centers on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This initiative encourages residents to divert food scraps from the landfill and convert them into nutrient-rich compost.
Residents will receive a Kitchen Caddy along with compostable liners to collect food scraps at home. Materials can be dropped off in designated composting bins at participating Rural Collection Centers.

“Since January 2026, residents have diverted nearly 12,000 pounds of food scraps from the landfill,” said Richard Devereaux, Gainesville General Manager of O-Town Compost. “Participation continues to grow, and we’re encouraged by the increasing volume of food scraps being composted.”

Way to go, Alachua County and O-Town Compost! Meaningful waste diversion efforts contribute toward downward pricing pressure on landfilling fees (it can make our trash bill cheaper or at least slower to increase cost)
