GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jaron Jereme Wilson, 22, was arrested just after midnight and charged with aggravated domestic assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after allegedly pointing a firearm at his girlfriend.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the address shared by Wilson and the victim and reportedly found the victim hiding behind a trash can near their residence, visibly upset. She reportedly told the officer that a verbal argument between the two had turned physical; she said Wilson poked her in the forehead with a finger and then went into the kitchen, grabbed a disassembled firearm, assembled it, and put it in his pocket.

She said Wilson walked toward her with his hand on the gun in his pocket and pointed it at her through his pants, saying, “I should kill you.” She said she fled the residence in fear for her life.

Post Miranda, Wilson reportedly said the firearm was fake and he keeps it for protection against his neighbors; he also said the firearm had been in his pocket all day and that he had never threatened the victim with it.

The firearm was found to be a Zoraki 9mm Blank Pistol; the officer wrote that it qualifies as a firearm by statute.

Wilson has a juvenile history and was convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2019 after he pled nolo contendere to that charge, along with four burglary charges; the maximum sentence for the charges is 25 years, but he was sentenced to two years of probation, served concurrently on all the charges. While on probation, he was arrested in May 2020 and charged with domestic battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for pointing a gun at his girlfriend and threatening to kill her; he was sentenced to 2.5 years in state prison and was released in August of 2022.

Wilson has seven felony convictions (two violent) and two misdemeanor convictions (two violent); Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $300,000.
