Gainesville man arrested for grabbing woman in laundry room of apartment complex

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Andrew Russell Moore, Jr., 32, was arrested yesterday for allegedly grabbing a woman’s genitals in the laundry room of Georgetown Apartments.

At about 12:28 p.m. on May 26, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Georgetown Apartments (1324 NW 16th Avenue), where the victim said Moore had been making remarks for several days about wanting to grab her genitals and have sex with her, both in person and via text message. She said she told him “in no uncertain terms” that she was not interested, but on the morning of May 25, while she was in the common laundry room, Moore walked in and started making derogatory comments about her. She said she faced him and told him to stop, and he lunged toward her and pinched her genitals over her clothes. While she was in shock that he did that, she said, he again lunged at her and pinched her in the same area.

On May 27, the officer reviewed surveillance video from the laundry room and reported that the victim entered first, with Moore quickly following her and immediately moving into a corner where he is not visible on the video. The officer reported that the victim looked agitated at first, then walked away from Moore while still angrily speaking with him. At one point, the victim walked over to Moore but then seemed to physically react to something, as if she had been hit. She then went back to doing her laundry, and Moore followed her out when she left.

The officer used law enforcement databases to find a unit number at Georgetown Apartments that was associated with Moore’s name. The officer showed the victim a photo line-up including the person associated with that apartment, and the victim positively identified him as the man who had grabbed her.

Moore was arrested at about 10 a.m. on June 1 at his apartment.

Moore has been charged with battery. He has three felony convictions and four misdemeanor convictions (one violent); he has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in November 2024. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $10,000, ordered him fitted with a GPS monitor, set a curfew between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., and ordered him not to return to Georgetown Apartments.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Man the Georgetown apartments have been there FOREVER…can anyone name an apartment complex in Gainesville that is older?

  • Told him no via text did I read that right why would give him hope by giving him your phone number …and no I’m not saying what he did wasn’t wrong but why just why would you give him your number

  • Why do people think it’s a bright thing to do letting a 4 year old doodle on their faces like that? Another case of bad parenting. Because this inbred was definitely dropped on his head once or twice.
