GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Andrew Bartholomew, 22, was arrested yesterday for allegedly intentionally running over a man who was riding a bicycle.
At about 11:20 a.m. on November 13, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the 100 block of NE 14th Street and found the victim on the ground, bleeding from the head. The officer reported that the victim initially couldn’t say who hit him; medical staff reported that he may have a traumatic brain injury, but that was not confirmed as of the time the report was written.
A witness reportedly said she saw a black sedan pull up to the victim and intentionally hit him without making any attempt to slow down; the witness said the car was “basically on top” of the victim after hitting him. The witness described the driver as a “shorter” light-skinned black male with short hair. The witness said the driver grabbed the victim by his shirt and started yelling at him, then he got back in his car and drove away. The witness provided the first three characters of the car’s tag.
A second witness who was driving in the area said he saw a light-skinned young black male grab the victim by the shirt and lift him up before getting back into a car and leaving.
A third witness said he saw the car hit the victim four times, and he parked behind the car and yelled at the driver to stop. He said the driver got back in his car, put his car in reverse, and hit the witness’s car before driving away. That witness called 911 and rendered aid to the victim.
A fourth witness said the suspect might be the victim’s girlfriend’s brother because the two men had had issues in the past.
The officer’s investigation found that the victim had met with his girlfriend near her residence to give her some dog food, and as soon as the victim left, Bartholomew followed him in his car.
While the officer was speaking with witnesses, Bartholomew reportedly called and said he wanted to turn himself in because he had run over the victim with his car. The officer met Bartholomew, arrested him, and noted that the first three characters of his car’s tag matched the information provided by the first witness.
Post Miranda, Bartholomew reportedly admitted to purposely hitting the victim with his car and said that after he hit him, he got out, grabbed the victim by the shirt, and started yelling at him. When the officer asked why Bartholomew had run over the victim, Bartholomew reportedly said the victim had threatened him “before,” and he was scared. The officer asked whether the victim had threatened him that day, and Bartholomew said he hadn’t, but he reportedly added, “I could say he was still mad about the previous incident.”
The officer reportedly said that since the victim was on a bicycle and Bartholomew was in a car, Bartholomew could have easily avoided the victim by not following him, and Bartholomew reportedly said that was correct and admitted that he had no reason to follow the victim.
Bartholomew has been charged with aggravated battery. He has a juvenile conviction from 2021 but no adult criminal history. Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; on November 20, Judge David Kreider granted the motion and ordered Bartholomew held without bail until trial.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

I hope he has accident forgiveness car insurance for his wallet’s sake because this one is going to hurt.
I wonder which ambulance chaser will be first to file a case for the victim.
Seems like an open & shut case for some damages.
You two are dreaming. This cretin doesn’t have insurance or two nickels to rub together. No $$$ to be had here and therefore no lawyer would touch this case.
Haven’t you seen the commercials? It’s not about the money, they care about the victim.
District 1 needs to learn better neighborliness before telling the rest of G’ville how to behave and pay more taxes.
👺💩👿👹🤡
In today’s episode of Tales of a Eastside kid the rules are different the farther east of Main St you go as you travel deep into this new diverse cultural experience. Actually I would argue the Eastside is moving expanding “further west” and the geographic boundary is no longer Main St on a map but is really 122nd St. (Parker Rd.). Just to be on the safe side But as Charlie takes more ground with all these new subdivisions in Newberry people are leashing and renting there homes. and those new apartments and townhouses at 122nd. That’s not a good sign. In 20 years or a lot sooner. You’ll have to live in Gilchrist County just to be on the right side of the DMZ out of the Eastside and way from Charlie.
Where Nature and Culture Meet. Wow the signs are true. Just not the kind of Culture I was hoping for and The Nature is more like an episode of Wild Kingdom.
If the car is used in a criminal act, the car insurance doesn’t have to pay in the majority of policies. Just an FYI.
Prayers for the victim and his family. Hoping he doesn’t have a TBI. They are a silent disability and life altering in every way.
One wonders who raised this kid
