Gainesville man arrested for violating domestic violence injunction while armed

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Reginald Tremaine Thomas, 42, has been charged with violating a domestic violence injunction and armed trespassing after allegedly using an old key to enter the home of the victim while armed with a gun.

At about 12:42 a.m. on August 3, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to the home of the victim, where Thomas had allegedly used an old house key to enter and then walked toward the victim’s male friend while armed with a silver firearm; the victim’s male friend ran outside through the back door. There is an active injunction against Thomas that prohibits him from contacting the victim.

The victim reportedly said Thomas did not point the gun at her but walked past her toward her male friend. The male friend was reportedly uncooperative and did not want to press charges.

A responding officer noted that he had responded to the same residence earlier in the day, but Thomas left before he arrived.

Thomas has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, armed trespassing, and violating an injunction. He has six felony convictions (one violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (non-violent); he has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2008. He is being held on $180,000 bail.
