GAINESVILLE, Fla. – James W. McCray III, 19, was arrested early this morning for allegedly threatening to shoot a woman at a Circle K on SE Hawthorne Road.
At about 1:09 a.m. on October 3, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Circle K at 4310 SE Hawthorne Road, where the victim said McCray had walked into the store with his hand in his waistband, holding a firearm. When he was told to leave, he reportedly argued with the victim, and as he turned to leave, he allegedly turned, pointed the firearm at the victim, and said, “I’ll kill you, [expletive].” The victim said she was in fear for her life.
A witness reportedly said she saw McCray walk into the store clutching a firearm in his waistband.
According to a Facebook post from ASO, a search warrant was obtained and executed by detectives and crime scene investigators. Three handguns were located inside the apartment, including one firearm that was reported stolen out of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 2020.
McCray has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no criminal history. Judge Craig DeThomasis set bail at $5,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Only $5000 bond??
5K bond for one of the most serious felonies that can be committed? Looks like anyone could cut loose and no one would care.
lock away and throw away the key
Judge Craig DeThoma-sissy really said “hey, this one’s got potential…let me release him back into society and who knows, maybe he’ll become a famous mass murderer!”
What exactly do you need to do to go to jail these days? There is basically zero consequence for crime in the Eighth Judicial Circuit.
