Gainesville to unveil new GFR fire engine

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — City of Gainesville leaders invite area neighbors to attend a dedication ceremony at Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) Station 4 for its newest firetruck, Engine 4.
When: 10 a.m. on Thurs., August 27
Where: GFR Fire Station 4, 10 SW 36th St.
During the event, neighbors will have the opportunity to help GFR firefighters push the new truck into the station bay. The tradition dates to the era before motorized vehicles, when placing hand-drawn hose carts and horse-drawn steam engines into the firehouse required a hands-on approach.
The City’s newest fire engine replaces the station’s current fire truck, which has averaged more than 2,300 response calls annually over five years.
The new engine is capable of carrying 750 gallons of water and is equipped with specialized tools and equipment to support rapid intervention during emergency incidents. As an Advanced Life Support vehicle, Engine 4 is deployed with state-certified emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
Truck probably drives to UF more than anywhere else. UF soaks up huge amounts of GFR and ACFR resources that you pay for at no benefit to you. UF should be mandated to create and staff it’s own fire deparment and EMS.
How many more trucks are really needed? The powers that be keep growing the city and county without any plan.
Oh…they have a ‘plan’ alright…..and it involves your wallet. Have you received your proposed property tax bill yet?

Three manufacturers — Oshkosh (parent of Pierce), REV Group, and Rosenbauer — control 70-80% of the US fire truck market. From the mid-2010s to now, the price of fire trucks more than doubled and delivery time almost tripled. Fire engine prices have nearly doubled since 2020, from about $589,000 to over $1 million, according to the International Association of Fire Fighters.
