GPD arrests armed barricaded subject

Press release from Gainesville Police Department

GAINESVILLE, Fla – At about 2:35 a.m. today, Gainesville Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence in the Anglewood subdivision (100 SW 40th Street), in reference to a stabbing.

Responding officers located an adult victim with cuts to his arm. Investigation revealed that the offender, Ronald Corey Shultz, 27, was alone inside the home, armed with firearms. Shultz initially made contact with officers at the front door of the residence but refused to come outside. Officers made multiple attempts to communicate at the door. Shultz came to the door multiple times, opening his front door armed with a pistol and shotgun.

GPD Specialty Units responded to the scene and worked together; GPD Emergency Services Team (EST) provided immediate safety while GPD Negotiations Response Team (NRT) continued communication efforts. Members of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) obtained an arrest warrant for Aggravated Battery (Domestic) and Aggravated Assault and a search warrant for the residence. The GPD Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) was requested and responded. After nearly 7.5 hours of negotiating, Shultz exited the residence unarmed and was arrested by GPD SWAT.

The Gainesville Police Department is grateful for the peaceful resolution. We would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation. Thank you to all of our law enforcement personnel and community builders/partners for their dedication and assistance.

  • I’ll withhold comment until the next time he is in the news after he is released with a slap on the hand.

  • Thank God he didn’t come out armed & went peacefully I’m glad everybody is ok & I pray for the man’s family that he killed & I also send my sincerest condolences to the man that was killed family & friends

    • Maybe I missed something. Who was killed. I only read about cuts to the arms of an adult Male.

  • What a complete waste of time and police resources. Now he’ll waste even more taxpayer money winding through the legal and prison system…cap him if he won’t surrender!

  • The mayor must have been on the negotiation team.

    Shultz: I ain’t comin’ out.
    Mayor: Why not?
Schultz: I need a “legacy” for my family.
Mayor: We won’t be able to afford it.
    Schultz: Why not?
Mayor: Our credit rating was just lowered so we can’t get a loan and our insurance premiums just went up.
Schultz: It took 7.5 hours for you to tell me that?
Mayor: It’s been years and most our constituents can’t even figure that out.
Schultz: Well thanks for not sending the K-9s in.
Mayor: We don’t want another lawsuit.
Schultz: I guess I’m not the only idiot in town.

This person lives in Pennsylvania, not in Florida.

You don’t seem to have the skills necessary to use google properly and should have a smarter person help you.
