GPD investigating murder-suicide in Northwood neighborhood

Press release from Gainesville Police Department

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – At approximately 5:53 a.m., the Gainesville Police Department received a distress call from a concerned family member reporting a domestic disturbance in the 6100 block of NW 30th Terrace. According to the caller, an argument had occurred between the victim and the suspect, during which the suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim’s head. The family member attempted to de-escalate the situation over the phone but soon after heard gunshots.

Patrol officers promptly responded to the scene, established a containment perimeter around the residence, and attempted to re-establish communication with the suspect via phone. Due to the serious nature of the call, reports of additional firearms inside the residence, a history of domestic-related issues, and the prior military experience of the suspect, the SWAT Team and Negotiations Response Team were activated and responded to assist.

Upon making entry into the residence, the SWAT Team discovered both the victim and the suspect deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The investigation remains ongoing, and next-of-kin notifications are being conducted.

The Gainesville Police Department extends its condolences to the families and loved ones impacted by this tragic incident.

  • Bummer
    Amen innocently taken away
    By another’s actions

    Rest in peace 🙏🏼 🪦

  • Domestics & DUI’s, number one killer of adults these days. Dude, it isn’t worth fighting and dying over. There are tons of other single folk out there.
    I know first hand.

    • The courts don’t prosecute abusers and routinely grant them custody, it’s an absolute crisis in this state. Watch the footage of Mary Gingles

  • This is so sad, but mainly I’m here to make a comment on the ‘prior military experience’ comment by GPD report. Unless the guy was a sniper, ‘military experience’ should not be lumped into the reason for calling in SWAT. Don’t get me wrong…. SWAT was appropriate.

  • We will be looking into whether there is a family law case & history of domestic violence… these cases are all the same and the courts & police do nothing until someone ends up dead
