GPD responds to weekend gun violence

The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) responded to three separate gun-related incidents over the weekend.
On Saturday, May 15, 2021, at approximately 3:20 a.m., GPD received several calls concerning shots fired near 1400 West University Avenue (The Standard). After arriving to the scene, officers discovered a victim that was confronted by two suspects that attempted to rob him as he was walking toward his scooter. As the victim fled the scene on foot, the suspects fired multiple shots in the direction of the victim. The victim was not hit. Several casings were found from more than one firearm. At this time, no suspects have been identified.
On Saturday, May 15, 2021, at approximately 6:44 p.m., GPD was dispatched to the 100 block of SE 26th Terrace in reference to an armed disturbance. After arriving to the scene, GPD officers discovered that a juvenile was confronted by three suspects (also juveniles) with a firearm after getting into a verbal argument.
On Sunday, May 16, 2021, at approximately 12:35 a.m., GPD officers were dispatched to the intersection of NE 25th Terrace and NE 10th Avenue in reference to calls of shots fired. After arriving to the scene, officers discovered no visible injured persons but did recover multiple shell casings in the intersection. While on scene, the Combined Communications Center advised GPD units that a patient with gunshot wounds was just dropped off to a local ER. The victim, a juvenile, was shot by an unknown suspect while attempting to get into his vehicle. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
There is no indication that any of these incidents are related, and all three remain under investigation.
