Hawthorne man on probation arrested for attempted homicide in August shooting incident

Staff report

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Adrion Keith Flowers, 27, has been charged with attempted homicide after allegedly shooting a man in Hawthorne on August 24.

At about 3:47 p.m. on August 24, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 6000 block of SE 223rd Street and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his leg; a single 9mm shell casing was found in the area.

When the victim was out of surgery, he reportedly told a deputy that Flowers had been angry with him for a few weeks because he talked to a woman at a local store. On August 24, he said, he briefly exchanged words with Flowers at the Family Dollar in Hawthorne about the same issue, but nothing escalated.

The victim said he was driving his work truck on the road behind the Family Dollar when he heard someone telling him to stop, so he pulled over, got out of the truck, and saw Flowers walking from behind a house.

The victim said Flowers displayed a firearm and pulled the slide back before putting it in his waistband, and then they got into a “heated” argument; he said he thought they settled their differences and things had calmed down, so he started walking back to his truck.

The victim said he watched Flowers until he got into his car, and then he turned away to get into his truck; he heard Flowers’ car getting closer, and he turned around. He said the driver’s side window was down on Flowers’ car, and Flowers said something before pointing the gun at him and shooting him. The victim reportedly suffered a broken femur.

Flowers has been charged with attempted homicide without premeditation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle; he was also booked for violating probation. He has three felony convictions (non-violent) and seven misdemeanor convictions (one violent); he is currently on probation for possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana. On September 9, Judge Denise Ferrero granted a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial.
