High Springs woman charged with threatening to cut victim’s throat with a knife

Staff report

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Jennifer Anne Houghkerk, 37, was arrested last night and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening to cut a man’s throat.

At about 10:42 p.m. on February 6, Houghkerk allegedly grabbed a knife at her house and threatened to slice a man’s throat. The responding High Springs Police Department officer noted that she appeared to have the ability to carry out the threat, and the victim’s fear for his life was “well-founded.”

Houghkerk has four felony convictions (one violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (none violent). She is also facing a sworn complaint for allegedly taking a phone from an 82-year-old man last June and kicking him in the stomach when he tried to get it back. She has served one state prison sentence for cocaine possession and was released in 2019. Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $150,000.
