Hippodrome Cinema announces September lineup

Press release from the Hippodrome Theatre

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Hippodrome Theatre’s HippCinema kicks off September with films that span slapstick classics, a Florida premiere, and three of the year’s most talked-about independent dramas. Highlights include a month-long tribute to Mel Brooks marking his 100th birthday, timed to the Hippodrome mainstage’s production of “You Can’t Take It With You,” and the Florida premiere of the documentary “First They Came For My College,” screening with a filmmaker meet-and-greet and post-film Q&A.

“This is one of our most eclectic Septembers yet — we’re honoring a comedy legend, giving Gainesville audiences a first look at a documentary that speaks directly to what’s happening on our own campuses, and bringing in some of the best new independent films of the year,” said Naheed Mojadidi, Cinema Director at the Hippodrome Theatre. “There’s something on this calendar for everyone who loves seeing film the way it was meant to be seen — together, on the big screen.”
