Homeless man arrested after throwing paver through downtown restaurant’s glass door

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lorenzo Keandre Smith, 28, was arrested yesterday after allegedly throwing a large paver through the glass door of an occupied downtown restaurant.
The responding Gainesville Police Department officer reported that at about 1:47 p.m. on May 25, Smith picked up a stone that looked like the corner portion of a stone paver (about 12 inches by 6 inches, weighing over 11 pounds) and threw it into the glass door of The Florida Room (2 W. University Avenue), which was open and occupied at the time.
The paver reportedly shattered the glass door, and the officer noted that the paver was “obviously large and heavy enough to be capable of causing death or great bodily harm, had it struck a patron inside the business.”
Post Miranda, Smith reportedly said he would make statements in court about why he threw the paver at the business. When asked if he knew there were people inside, he reportedly said he did and that he saw people behind the glass before he threw the paver. He then refused to say anything else.
Smith, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with throwing a deadly missile into an occupied building. His full criminal history is unavailable, but he has served two state prison sentences; the first was for four felonies (three violent) out of Orange County, and the last was for battery on a detainee in the Alachua County Jail; he was released on February 10, 2025, after serving a sentence of a year and a week in state prison. Judge Luis Bustamante set bail at $50,000.

I’ll keep repeating this. Type the word homeless into the search box above and you can see hundreds of rapes, robberies, and attacks going back years. What you never see is the city of Gainesville solving this problem.
but they have a “Plan to end homelessness” much like the rest of their plans it is broken. the homeless population here keeps on increasing, and then a lot of them aren’t eligible to go into the motels they are converting and such due to their addictions.
There are an unacceptable amount of violent crimes tied to GRACE. The district attorney needs to declare that place a nuisance. What are they waiting for???? Do your damn job!!!
It’s probably part of their plan to discourage any new (young, independent-thinking) people from wanting to live here, keeping the voters largely a bunch of crazy old TDS feminists who will always vote Dem. That’s probably why Poe did what he could to ruin the tech startup culture that had started to take hold here. If you listen to him speak, the local DA sounds like a wuss. I wouldn’t expect him to take any bold action. But maybe something else can be done.

The other morning, I saw this dude at 6 am jogging with a super bright headlight on and a belt that flashed in the back. Do you know what I wore when I used to jog at the crack of dawn? Dark clothes. That’s right….I had to remain as invisible as possible because as a female, I am more likely to be attacked than Mr “Look at Me” jogger who can wear reflective clothing that is safer in terms of cars, etc (as well as his blinding head light)

Old, but with the minds of children, protesting Tesla every week and standing near Depot Park with 200 different TDS-themed signs and big goofy smiles – instead of protesting something that actually matters or even acknowledging any real problem at all. Protestors have always been college students and young people, not their moms and grandmas with too much time on their hands and almost zero younger people. Don’t you see how odd that looks? Feminists come in all genders. Since modern so-called “third wave feminism” basically wants to destroy men, there are fewer male feminists than there used to be. Less than 20% of women identify as feminists nowadays since they became so anti-male. So you have to figure it’s an even smaller percentage of men. You can see who is out holding their signs and grinning at the world. It’s definitely more women. After “the change in life,” a high percentage of women have unfortunate cognitive challenges. That is not helping, either.
