Homeless man charged with chasing 12-year-old girl with scissors, threatening to kill two women
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Shahiem Leron Bush, 20, was arrested yesterday after allegedly chasing a 12-year-old girl with scissors and then threatening to kill two women in the Highland Court Manor neighborhood.
At about 7:37 p.m. on April 3, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the 1000 block of NE 31st Avenue, where a 12-year-old girl said Bush told her to run before chasing her down NE 31st Avenue. The girl’s mother and a second woman told the officer that when the girl reached them and told them what had happened, they saw Bush running down the street with a pair of scissors in his hand.
The women said that when Bush reached them, he said he would “kill them all” while holding the scissors.
The officer reported that he found Bush in the area and that the victims positively identified him as the man who had threatened them. The officer reportedly found a pair of white scissors across the street.
The officer reported that Bush said he had smoked spice earlier in the day; according to the officer, Bush was “not acting normal and was not making sense.” Bush was reportedly unable to answer any questions post Miranda “due to [his] behavior.”
Bush has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. He has juvenile convictions in 2022 and 2023 but no adult convictions. Bush’s address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, but he was arrested in February 2025 for trespassing at GRACE after he was asked to leave. An expert was hired to evaluate his competency to stand trial in that case, and although the court docket does not show the result of the evaluation, the charge was dropped the same day the competency evaluation report was filed.
Judge David Kreider ordered Bush held without bail on the new charges pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Someone else else did this near exact same thing, except with a knife up in alachua. Was never charged with that but was charged with possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia and ended up deemed mentally incompetent. All charges were dropped and he was turned loose with no where to go. Awesome system 😠😡😠😡😠😡
Yep that’s what happens when the libs and ACLU run things. It’s much more humane to dump them back into the street to victimize working people than to put them somewhere they can’t be a threat to themselves or others. Just look at any liberal ran city, they’re all trash piles with a majority of the homeless mentally ill in some way or other.
Maybe someone could explain to us why being high on drugs, or ‘criminally insane’ are legal excuses for releasing these animals back into society. Let’s use some of this wasted tax money that keeps being revealed and create mental facilities for this problem.
You’re right Joey. Biden and the dems should have sicced his AG on Trump for Jan 6 on March 21, 2021 instead of wasting 2 years on legal niceties. We’d still have an economy that was “the envy of the world” and the respect of decent people and other democracies around the world.
Is he about 6′-1″, overweight, with an orange face, red tie and a huge comb over?
Give your Trump Derangement a rest. You really need to seek professional help and get some anxiety meds. This guy has nothing to do with Trump, Musk, or DeSantis. It’s a Alachua County Failure. The good news is a single shot vaccine of the 9mm would cure the issue immediately.
Get a life
Which city owned homeless motel will he be staying at?
They need to put them in tents in the front and back yards (if they have them) of the people who keep voting people into office that support it.
grace has only model citizens
Dude, that’s why we have them out in the middle of nowhere instead of on Bo Diddley Plaza where they used to be, and also aren’t paying jail rates.
Probably lives in the Campsite behind Parks Ford. Just because they have a Grace Address doesn’t mean they still live there. I guess the City doesn’t think we notice what’s happening in our neighborhood.
The article says he’s trespassed from GRACE, like dozens of other homeless people. So he can’t even go there.
This man needs treatment for his mental illness. Otherwise he’ll just keep acting out and getting arrested, and has no housing or stable living arrangements. How is he supposed to receive treatment or survive on the streets? And don’t come at me with the BS that he should live in my house or the mayor’s house. He needs to be hospitalized and receive treatment. Have some compassion.
Lawyers will repeatedly release him, they have that “compassion” you want 🤡
How about the same as Trump gets?
You seriously need some intense , inpatient therapy for your psychotic, insane, obsessive TDS! Perfect example why mental asylums are necessary!
Your “compassion” is what is causing so much of the problem. The “compassion” of the motorists in donating money to the bums also invites this group.
So you’re ok with not offering this mentally ill man any services or assistance? You complain about crime rates, but if this person doesn’t receive mental ill services he will simply commit crimes over and over.
All for lobotomy therapy with a Kolbalt Tool
They need to solve it like what they are doing with the bird flu…
Yalls talk but why not have the chuckle cheese chestnut football set up this wouldn’t happen. 150 million ain’t nothing to save lives. Step up or shut up.
Another once blue collar workers’ neighborhood ruined by younger generation thugs. ACLUSPLCDNC 👹🤡👿💩👺
Bring back long-term mental institutions!
An early start on his career criminal designation. Sad.
