Jack Jacobs appointed to GRU Authority
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Although the Governor’s Office has not sent out the official announcement, GRU CEO Ed Bielarski has confirmed that Jack Jacobs has been appointed to the vacant seat on the GRU Authority.
Jacobs will finish the term of Bielarski, who resigned from the board to accept the CEO job; the term ends in 2027. According to information from the Governor’s Appointments Office, Craig Carter’s term ends on October 1 of this year; Chip Skinner’s ends in 2025; Chair Eric Lawson’s ends in 2026, and David Haslam’s ends in 2027.
Jacobs is a retired Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy who is married to TV20 Anchor Paige Beck. He told Alachua Chronicle, “I’ve served the Gainesville and Alachua County communities for my entire adult life, and I’m honored to have been chosen to serve in this position.”
Some people are angry that DeSantis is appointing GOP supporting to the new GRU board. I don’t care who gets appointed because there’s no way they’ll do a worse job than the city has done, using our public utility to fund their pet projects.
Thanks, Governor. My GRU bill is lower than it’s been for years. Can you remind the ignor##nt GCC they are Fired as well as the Bot(((er Bit))hers?
Congratulations, Jack. You’ll be great.
Thank goodness! Yay Jack!
There is NOTHING the Governor and the GRU Authority can do to please the Biomass/Tree Burner bandits at city hall and their supporters who remain in a Constant State of DENIAL.
All they want is their GRU ‘Cash Cow’ back to feed their chronic spending addiction on the backs of GRU customers.
Most GRU customers don’t care what political party the GRU Authority board members belong to – they just want a competent board INDEPENDENT from the politics city hall to Govern over GRU……..
A Damn Good Man, who will do a Damn Good job!!
Congratulations, Jack! Good person with extensive local knowledge. Just what the board needs.
Congratulations Jack! You will bring a common sense level they aren’t quite used to.
Jack don’t know Jack isht about utilities. SMH, we need expertise on this board.
If he’s able to calculate a person shouldn’t spend more than they make, or take more money out of their account than they have in it, he’s smarter and knows more than any commissioner or mayor sitting in City Hall.
Apparently much more than the voting idiots who elected those same individuals sitting in City Hall as well.
It’s this same idiotic thinking that makes the City Commission think they are just as capable to run a utility.
I would rather have astute business minded individuals running the utility . They have already made common sence changes that have helped GRU and its Customers. The failed Gainesville. Wokesville leaders that were rightfully Fired , should be either prosecuted or deemed incompentent like Let’s Go Brandon. There should be lawsuits filed against the regime trying to go backwards and regain control of a utility they did their best to destroy. Why can’t they accept their ignorance and ineptness and leave Alachua County customers and taxpayers alone. They owe us $68 million dollars. Some may consider this THEFT. Pay up and shut up.
Godspeed. It’s a thankless volunteer job (unless you’re Ed, then you get PAID).
