January 31 COVID data update

According to the state dashboard, Alachua County reported an increase of 89 positive COVID-19 tests today (one from July), with an official test positivity rate of 3.04%. Five new deaths were reported.

The new deaths:

77-year-old female with unknown emergency room visit and unknown hospitalization, tested positive 12/5
66-year-old male who visited an emergency room and was hospitalized, tested positive 12/23
72-year-old male who visited and emergency room and was hospitalized, tested positive 12/26
93-year-old female with unknown emergency room visit and unknown hospitalization, tested positive 12/28
88-year-old female with unknown emergency room visit and unknown hospitalization, tested positive 12/30

One was in long-term care.

Of the people whose positive tests came back yesterday, 10 were 65 or older (this is the important number to track because those are the people who are more likely to have bad outcomes).

A total of 171 deaths have been reported in the county, 53 of which were in long-term care.

The overall number of people (from all counties) hospitalized here for COVID-19 decreased from 148 to 145. This is down from a peak of 256 on January 13.

State COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased from 6,153 to 6,101 today. This is down from a peak of 7,763 on January 13.

The state reported 7,788 new positive tests (official positivity rate of 5.54%) and a net increase of 119 deaths, 23 of which were from long-term care facilities.

Changes in deaths were reported on 29 different dates, going back to September 26.

The first-wave peaks were on July 30/31 (235) and August 4 (239), and the 7-day moving average peak was August 5 (227).

The state has vaccinated a total of 1,678,944 people (314,528 have received the complete series). Vaccines were administered first to healthcare and front-line workers, with vaccines being rolled out to people 65 and older now.
