Local CNA charged with attempted homicide of boyfriend in Pineridge

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ateegra L. Williams, 35, was arrested early this morning after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, causing him to be trauma-alerted to a hospital.

At about 1:29 a.m. on August 16, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to the 2400 block of NW 58th Avenue in Pineridge, where a witness said there was a male victim who had been stabbed multiple times.

Officers reportedly found the victim on the ground, with a pool of blood around his arm from suspected arterial bleeding. Officers followed a trail of blood to Williams’s home, where they found Williams leaving her home and walking to her vehicle.

The witness reportedly said the victim told her that his girlfriend had stabbed him; the witness reportedly knew that the victim was dating Williams, and she provided Williams’s name.

Officers reported that Williams’s arms were covered in blood, and they noted the presence of blood throughout the residence. A bottle of bleach was found near the front door, and three kitchen knives were found in the sink, next to a bottle of peroxide; these items led officers to believe that Williams had been trying to clean the knives.

The victim was transported to a hospital under a trauma alert.

Post Miranda, Williams reportedly said, “I am not talking.” She also reportedly stated spontaneously that she had stabbed the victim in self-defense.

Williams, who has an active CNA license, has been charged with attempted first-degree homicide and tampering with evidence. Her local criminal history includes two dropped charges of battery, a dropped charge of robbery by sudden snatching, an arrest for a Georgia warrant for grand theft of a motor vehicle, and deferred prosecution for making a false report to law enforcement, with nothing in her record since 2015. She told Court Services she had been employed at UF Health Shands for one day before her arrest.

Judge Gloria Walker ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial. On August 25, Judge James Colaw denied the motion and set bail at $120,000, with a requirement for a GPS monitor.
