Man arrested for threatening deputies with knife during eviction

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Michael Hamel Woods, 22, was arrested yesterday after he allegedly threatened deputies with a knife while they were trying to evict him from an apartment.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy reported that he had posted a 24-hour eviction notice on Friday afternoon at Woods’ apartment at The Crossings at Santa Fe and had spoken with Woods and told him he had to move out over the weekend. The deputy told Woods that he would be back on Monday to complete the eviction.
Two deputies arrived on Monday at about 1:35 p.m., and Woods allegedly answered the door with a large kitchen knife in his hand, pointed toward the ground. The deputy reported that Woods gave reasonable belief that he was prepared to strike the deputies with the knife.
The deputies told Woods to drop the knife multiple times while holding him at gunpoint, but Woods allegedly refused to drop the knife until one of the deputies switched from his gun to his taser and told Woods he would be tased if he did not drop the knife.
After Woods dropped the knife, he allegedly continued to refuse commands to get on the ground, face away from the deputies, or lift his shirt so the deputies could try to clear his waistband. He was eventually tased and placed in handcuffs.
Woods has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence. He has no criminal history; Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $102,500.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Another idiot lacking emotional intelligence.
May as well get ready for it. With recent local legislation, there’s going to be more evictions. You can thank lil’ Kenny, smokin’ Poe & Harvey “Two Face.” They played the voters tune just the way they wanted.
Hope the libs are happy with themselves, they are cutting global warming – by causing less energy consumption. If you can’t afford a home, there’s no reason to produce the energy required to heat or cool it.
I thought the Crossings was student rentals? WTF did Collier turn it into a section 8 crime breeding farm?
He clearly wanted to ensure a lengthy stay in jail by deciding to act up. Even with Judge Green on the bench he would get more than a couple of days.
No one ever said you needed to pass an IQ test to be a thug. Enjoy riding the lightening Einstein. It may be your last. Next time maybe they will save us some tax dollars.
Poor guy is homeless now. Why? Because that GNV landlord ordinance made rents go up and GRU utility bills are
Insane and now this guy will be homeless and staying in a tent at Grace Marketplace…the unintended consequences of government intervention.
Go woke, go broke. Thanks GNV CC for ruining affordable housing & our utility.
The county needs to enlarge the jail and Grace Mkt now to deal with the “crime, drug, violence, vagrant, & homeless crisis” they have created with their failed policies…Dem leadership since Hanrahan ruining GRU has been a disaster.
The knife was obviously sharper than he was.
