Man arrested for threatening to shoot girlfriend
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rashad Breon Jones, 20, was arrested yesterday for allegedly battering and threatening to shoot his girlfriend.
A Gainesville Police Department officer reported that at about 9 a.m. on September 16, Jones became angry with the victim and flipped over an air mattress while she was on it, causing her to fall to the ground; Jones then allegedly started choking her while threatening to shoot her with his pistol.
The victim said that when Jones released her, he reached under the couch to get the pistol, so she told him she had to submit job applications and quickly left; however, she drove to GPD Headquarters to report the incident. She reportedly told the officer that she was in fear for her life because Jones had fired a round at her during a previous incident in Jacksonville.
Jones was arrested on September 18.
A witness reportedly told the officer that she had witnessed previous battery incidents committed by Jones against the victim and had seen Jones concealing a pistol in his clothing and trying to hide the pistol in various locations.
Jones, whose address is listed as Jacksonville, has been charged with domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. He has no local criminal history, and Judge Luis Bustamante ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“Judge Luis Bustamante” — Excellent. Well done, Judge Bustamente. Violent criminals should not get bail. Judge, so you know, we, the taxpayers who fund your salary are taking notes. You get a check in the win column for this decision.
