Man arrested for trying to enter multiple apartments in the middle of the night

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Anthony Denilson Philippe-King, 26, was arrested early yesterday morning after allegedly trying to enter multiple apartments at The Polos in the middle of the night.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to The Polos (2330 SW Williston Road), where a witness reported seeing a man pulling on the front door of her apartment. She said the man was pulling on the doorknob while repeatedly saying, “It’s Anthony.” She said she saw him walk up to two more apartments in the complex after he left her apartment.

The officer reported that he found Philippe-King at a different building in the same complex, walking toward an apartment that appeared to be vacant.

The officer made contact with Philippe-King and noted that he appeared to be intoxicated; he was reportedly uncooperative and refused to provide his identification or explain why he was at the apartment complex.

The officer found probable cause to charge Philippe-King with prowling and arrested him.

Post Miranda, Philippe-King reportedly said he had been dropped off at the apartment complex, but he said he did not know who had dropped him off. He said he was trying to find his way home, but he said he lived at a different apartment complex.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced about 7.75 grams of marijuana and a baggie with white residue that tested positive for cocaine and marijuana.

Philippe-King has been charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of drug equipment, and prowling. He has no local criminal history, and Judge Adam Lee set bail at $10,000.
