Man charged with hitting woman in the head with a brandy bottle, sending her to the hospital

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Samuel Corales, 36, was arrested early this morning after allegedly hitting a woman in the head with a brandy bottle, sending her to the hospital.

At about 1:25 a.m. on February 10, Corales reportedly went to a neighboring apartment in Tower Oaks to buy alcoholic beverages from the victim; the victim told the responding Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy that Corales became disruptive and started yelling, so she asked him to leave. She said he left, came back inside without permission, grabbed a bottle of brandy valued at $35, and left.

The victim said that when she confronted Corales about stealing the brandy, he hit her in the head with the bottle. She said she initially followed him but stopped when she realized the extent of her injuries. The responding deputy reported that she was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

Corales has been charged with burglary with battery, aggravated battery causing bodily harm, and petit theft within the curtilage of a dwelling. Corales, whose listed address is in Tower Oaks Apartments, has one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent) in Florida and a criminal record in Washington and New York between 2018 and 2024. Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial.

  • Is Tower Oaks subsidized housing? Seems to always be something criminal going on there so I just wondered if it was subsidized housing.

  • Stop the presses. Everyone is missing the big story here.
