Man on pre-trial release arrested for threatening store clerk with a mop handle

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – D’Andre Vanshon Jemel Anderson, 29, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly threatening a convenience store clerk with a mop handle.

At about 7:55 p.m. on July 2, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the Circle K at 1515 N. Main Street, where the clerk said Anderson had knocked merchandise on the floor, jumped behind the sales counter, and held a mop handle over his head in a threatening manner. She said he approached her aggressively with the mop, causing her to fear for her safety.

Three witnesses reportedly corroborated the clerk’s account of the incident.

Anderson, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with aggravated assault. He has two felony convictions (non-violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (two violent); he has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2019.

He was arrested in May for damaging a door at a friend’s house; bail was initially set at $2,500, but after his attorney argued that he could not afford the bail and would reside at a home in Lincoln Estates, he was released on his own recognizance in early June. Judge Kristine Van Vorst ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • How about remain in jail until the trial for the previous incident, then address the current charges.

  • Alachua County needs a Pre-Crime Division.
It’d be an easy job; just wait outside the courthouse after their initial hearing and release for pre-trial. Pick ’em up & lock ’em up.
Eventually the law of averages should dictate they’ll harm someone “important” or their families . Maybe then they’ll figure it out.

  • Why do the scummy judges and public lawyers allow caseloads to use GRACE as an address?
    Nevermind…
    ACLUSPLCDNC 👺💩👹🤡👿

  • That’s the reason why we need to do away with homelessness because they are very dangerous to a citizens who pay for their actions you barely see people up in Alabama that are homeless in the mountains and places like that you barely even see trash on the street and I’m not talking about people

  • Do away with homelessness and what I meant by that was it should be against the law and not permitted here in Gainesville or any of our surrounding counties send their asses overseas or in a different country to fight battles wars whatever get them up out of here

    • Good luck with your endeavor to ‘do away with homelessness’. The liberals insist on more dignity free services for the bums, hobos, drug addicts, and criminal miscreants. I feel like a swift kick in the a$$ and NO free stuff will eventually solve the problem.

      • Yeah…they really need to not be so accommodating to criminals & vagrants here…there should be zero tolerance for squatting & panhandling…it’s not a good look for our city and it’s becoming increasingly more dangerous. We don’t need any more names on 34th….what the city is doing now is not working. The city manager needs to clean things up.

  • Seems they just never, ever, learn. Vile, violent, and stupid are just a bad combination.

  • What’s with this crime wave by people that have 4 names? Here’s crime stoppers tip if you got more than 2 vowels or an ‘ in your 1st name you probably got warrants or more than a 1st, Middle and last name.

  • Wow so this why he did a no call no show
He was scheduled to work, wow
I want get in here and say free him bc D is going thru so much man til it’s ridiculous. It still don’t justify his actions, but going thru bs in your life and not knowing which way to turn can be hell. Now as for this store incident (wat transpired for him to become belligerent)? Something had to happen bc I know this man did not just go on this store and act as such.
