GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mukunda Das Gomez Asimbaya, 25, was arrested early this morning and charged with cocaine possession after a witness identified him as the instigator of a fight at the Southwest Downtown Parking Garage. He is on probation for driving under the influence.
Gainesville Police Department officers saw a fight at the parking garage and interviewed bystanders in an attempt to identify the aggressors in the fight. A witness pointed at Gomez Asimbaya, who was sitting in a car. Officers detained him and reportedly found a baggie with 0.7 grams of cocaine in his pocket in a search incident to arrest.
Post Miranda, Gomez Asimbaya reportedly said he was at a club, looking for $15 cocaine, but the seller charged him $50, and he got upset and started a fight with the seller.
Gomez Asimbaya has three misdemeanor convictions, and he is on probation on a 2021 DUI charge. He has violated the terms of the probation twice, and after the second violation, a positive urine test for cocaine and THC, he was sentenced to a 39-day jail term in June of 2022. His probation was extended to February of 2023. He has been charged with cocaine possession and is being held on $10,000 bond.
