Man on probation arrested for stalking

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

Robert Deon Watkins, 37, was arrested last night on a stalking charge. He is on probation for cocaine possession, cashing a stolen check, and grand theft convictions in three previous cases. He has a warrant out of Gadsden County for grand theft.

At about 7:00 p.m. last night, Watkins tried to break down the door of the victim’s residence. The victim asked him to leave, but he kept trying to break down the door. He eventually left. He had previously sent her messages that indicated he had been following her and watching her activities.

After Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies located Watkins, Watkins reportedly gave them verbal consent to look through his phone, and they found “numerous unanswered calls and text messages” sent to the victim. The last text message from the victim told him not to call her back.

Watkins has been charged with stalking. He is being held on $2,000 bond with the requirement for a GPS device when he is released.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Attempting to “break down a door” is a little more than just “stalking” in my opinion.

  • Wasn’t there some kind of statistical analysis conducted recently by GPD?

    Inquiring minds are still waiting.

  • $2000.00 Bond…😱
    Wow… I assume his victim is black….
    Which black lives matter???
Apparently not the lives of black women who are being stalked by black men….

  • Keep up the great work Poe and company..keep allowing these POSs to go wild in our city…

    • Citizens need to demand that the interim city manager
Review the policy about accepting releases inmates
From jails & prisons from other counties like Putnum.
I know for a fact that putnum releases their inmates
To Grace to receive benefits in Alachua county. The
Interim city manager needs to get the panhandlers out
Of medians because it’s a public safety hazzard. It’s
Not a first amendment issue…they are conducting commerce! No doubt there’s a lot of mental issue people
Out there…time for operation “clean-up GNV” and
Load up the jail in this cold weather…if the jail gets too
Full, make some temporary barracks outside. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time or get out of our town!
Start bussing the criminals back to where they came
From, we don’t need them here…it’s the interim city
      Managers fault…
