Motorcyclist killed, two others injured in Waldo crash
Staff report
WALDO, Fla. – A Cape Coral man was killed and a Virginia woman and Waldo man were transported to the hospital after a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed hit a pickup truck in Waldo this morning.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a 35-year-old Cape Coral man was driving a motorcycle southbound on U.S. 301 at a high rate of speed at about 8:45 a.m. when a pickup truck driven by a 73-year-old Waldo man turned from NE 140th Avenue onto U.S. 301. The motorcycle hit the left side of the pickup truck, and the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 29-year-old woman from Maurertown, Virginia, was a passenger on the motorcycle and was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. The man and woman on the motorcycle were reportedly not wearing helmets.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.
Story omitted that the motorcycle driver was fleeing an attempted traffic stop…..
I don’t think this is a true statement. I drove by going North right when first responders arrive and it was a fire truck. If they were fleeing a traffic stop, I’d expect a cop to be there already.
Sam, it is a true statement. The deputy used lights and siren for a stop, did not pursue motorcycle.
“Fleeing” is the wrong word. They were leaving the traffic. Fleeing would mean they were running away from a place or situation of danger.
Those seatbelts and helmets – they were invented and intended for a reason; to save lives.
Chances are greater if you don’t use one you’ll lose the other.
We have had a lot of traffic death in Waldo. Speed kiĺls
I would wager stupid kills more than speed. If he was fleeing a traffic stop, there’s the stupid.
Speeding on motorcycle not wearing helmets is just like being put on list that reads Organ Donors. Not wearing a seat belt usually results in the same listing. Not sure about the attempted staff iui c stop and fleeing but is stupid. If that was the case the dr i75 ver of the motorcycle got his stupid award early.

Isn’t this the one fleeing a traffic stop in Columbia County and ASO refused to help? Columbia had to break off because they were losing radio contact.
I’m close to Maurertown, Va and just wondering who this person was since she is from here.
The identity will not be released by authorities.
This happened 200 feet from my front door. I heard it then heard Fire engine. I spoke to several people including a southbound man who saw the attempted traffic stop at the flea market three miles North of here. and saw the bike flee, very fast. He came upon the accident as he continued Southbound. I spoke with the deputy who tried to pull over the bike and did not pursue. He did not pursue, but the man fled with his passenger anyway… Proverbs 28:1 “The wicked flee when no one pursues”
