Project YouthBuild selects Class of 2027 following competitive application process

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Project YouthBuild AmeriCorps has selected 32 students for its Class of 2027 from nearly 100 applicants, following a competitive selection process.

Applicants were selected after completing a written application, participating in an in-person interview, and attending a four-day orientation and tryout event. The rigorous process was designed to identify young people who were ready to succeed at Project YouthBuild.

“We were incredibly impressed by the young people who applied, and selecting this year’s class was not easy. These 32 young people demonstrated the commitment, potential, and determination we look for in Project YouthBuild students, and we are excited to support them as they work toward their goals,” said Jonathan Leslie, Executive Director.

Project YouthBuild provides young people with opportunities to earn their high school diploma, nationally recognized construction and/or healthcare credentials, and a scholarship for post-secondary education or trades school. Students spend nearly half of their time constructing affordable housing and volunteering at local non-profit organizations to help increase capacity in the local community.

This year’s class represents the next generation of young people who will learn, grow, contribute to their community, and prepare for future education and career opportunities through Project YouthBuild.

“This group of young people stood out through a very comprehensive process. We are looking forward to seeing what they accomplish together,” said Leslie.

The nine-month program is scheduled to begin in two weeks.
