Registered juvenile sex offender charged with molesting girl under 12

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Larance Devonte Scott, 22, a registered juvenile sexual offender, was arrested yesterday and charged with molesting a girl under 12 years old.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Verdant Cove apartment complex Thursday, where the victim reportedly said Scott had lured her behind a shed under the guise of being partners in a game of hide-and-seek. She said while they were there, Scott made comments about physical strength and challenged her to lift him off the ground. She lifted him and put him back down. He then allegedly lifted her off the ground, with his hands on the back of her thighs. She told a deputy that she immediately told him to put her back down and stop touching her, but he allegedly picked her back up by wrapping his right arm around her thighs, with his palm on her buttocks. Scott was not located at the time.

Deputies responded again on Friday morning when a caller said Scott was still in the complex and sitting in a car.

Post Miranda, Scott reportedly said he had been with his brother and his brother’s girlfriend the whole day on Thursday while helping them move; both the brother and girlfriend also reportedly said he had been with them the whole time.

Deputies reportedly viewed video surveillance that showed Scott walking behind the shed at about 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, then luring the victim behind the shed and making hand gestures for her to follow him behind the shed. The video also reportedly shows Scott placing his hand into his pants while speaking with the child.

Scott later reportedly changed his story and said he had been alone at one point to talk on the phone, but he denied ever being behind a shed, interacting with a child, or touching a child. However, when confronted with the video footage, he reportedly admitted that he had gone behind the shed and that there were children in the area; however, he continued to deny that he had ever played with or touched a child.

Scott was convicted of sexual assault on a juvenile victim when he was 17, and that case resulted in his registration as a juvenile sexual offender. He has five adult felony convictions (one violent). He was convicted of failure to report his address as a sexual offender in 2021 in both Alachua and Putnam Counties; the Alachua County arrest report stated that he had given law enforcement officials the address of a cousin, where he had never lived. He was sentenced to two years in state prison for the Putnam County conviction and was released on May 11, 2023. He was sentenced to 18 months community control (house arrest) for the Alachua County conviction, and his lawyer stated in a motion on May 26 that the intent was for that sentence to run concurrently with the prison sentence; the motion asked the judge to end the community control sentence so Scott could “return home to the state of Georgia with his family.” Judge William Davis granted the motion on May 26 and terminated the community control.

Bail information is unavailable on weekends.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • When will judges realize you can’t reform these sick people lock them up for life before other children are hurt by them

  • No shortage of predators in our community. They let them out after a brief ‘equitable’ liberal judge sentence.

  • The whole “register as a sex offender” is a joke. If you molest a child, there should not be one ounce of trust in you until the day you die.

We have the technology to have these offenders on 24 hour electronic monitoring and that’s what should happen. And if they re-offend, the presumption should be that they are no longer safe on the streets. Period.

Yes – it is sad. But not as sad as children being molested and raped by people who have already been convicted of that type of crime.

When will judges and parole boards realize they can’t let sex offenders or murderers out?

  • The simple fact is that he has five adult felony convictions in which he should have served prison time for. He is a registered sex offender with the state if Florida. He never left Alachua County to go to Georgia to live. It looks like he lied to get out of house arrest so he could continue to prey on childern. Judge Davis seems to be the judge in several of his cases. The state attorney declined to file on two cases in which he could gave served time and may not have been out presently. See the trend. These judges and state attorneys do not seem to care about our children’s safety. Scott has a incurable criminal behavior that will never be fixed by rehabilitation or mental treatment. Case in point he was put in prison for this behavior only to be released and then given the right to prey again on childern by slick lawyers and judges. Only cure is a labotomy provided by a craftsman drill.

  • And now I have so many questions as this is my community… I am outraged! This is for one too close to two schools …. And answered the question as to why they were looking for someone Thursday and if we saw them to call… 🤬🤬🤬
We are suppose to have Background checks, if he was living here why the fxxx was he able to move in. This community if full of kids. According to what we all were told he was suppose to have an ankle monitor, which when I saw him and the cops yesterday (Friday) wondering what on earth was going on so early… the boy didn’t have an ankle monitor, and according to the article was not on community control. The question then becomes, why was he still here if he was suppose to have moved to GA.
I am angry, that means there could be more kids. 🤬🤬🤬

  • The sad part is that we have to continue to keep people like this alive. We have to spend thousands if not millions of dollars to house them and feed them and guard them. It would be much easier to just execute them. I believe the day is coming when we will no longer tolerate individuals like this who are so deviant and sick that they can’t live amongst us. In a way the most humane thing to do on both sides is just to put them down.

    • Don’t worry, the liberals will always be willing to tolerate them – until it shows up on their front porch.

  • We live in a corrupt county that allowed 1 “man” to spawn 35 children; many with underage girls as young as 13.

  • Cut to the chase – he needs his balls cut off. How is it offenders have more rights than victims?
Only in a progressive liberal society.

  • Wear your pants below your waist and massage your junk in plain sight of everyone.
    Anyone ever seen this happen?
If you call it out, then you’re called a racist by his overprotective Mama.
And that is how the story begins!

    • Saw this in Walmart yesterday with a 16+ yr old kid hiding behind his angry ass mama. He had his pants below his thighs and fondling his junk. Many in the store were shocked and calling for a manager. MAMA started Turkey necking with insults of racism against the customers.

      Another future rapist in training.

  • Why are these creeps coming here from other places? Are “behavioral” Dem donor NGOs keeping them here so Dem lawyers have income streams for their law skool loans? Yes. Next it’ll be ex-con residential centers like they tried reforming Alex on Clockwork Orange.

  • They’re not prosecuting and incarcerating criminals because too many minorities commit crimes.
It’s an equity thing. It costs $16k to $100k to give treatment to a juvenile offender with drug or mental health problems. Juvenile Incarceration doesn’t work. When they get out, they go back to the same environment.

    • The community churches failed them, the school system failed them, and the department of juvenile justice (DJJ) them…”it takes a village to raise a child” is BS. It’s genetic. Don’t breed em if you can’t educate & feed em. Nuclear family with a mother & father is best. Personal responsibility is the key.

  • Maybe we should be forgiving, give him time off for good behavior and let him rent a place next door to Poe or Ward’s house.
