School district holding job fair to recruit bus drivers
Press release from Alachua County Public Schools
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alachua County Public Schools will be holding a Transportation Job Fair on November 14 from 4:30-6 p.m. to recruit school bus drivers.
The fair will be held at the district office at 620 E. University Avenue in Gainesville. No registration is required. Interviews will be conducted and jobs offered on the spot.
No experience is required to become a bus driver. In fact, applicants will be paid while they get their CDL training. Starting pay is $17.37 an hour plus benefits that include free health insurance. More pay is also available for drivers who work additional time, including summer hours.
To qualify for a driver position, an applicant must be 21 years of age or older, hold a valid driver’s license, have a safe driving record, and pass a background check and drug test.Â
The ACPS Transportation Department is also recruiting other bus paraprofessionals, mechanics, and other positions.
This is an important event. Lack of bus drivers and substitutes is causing students to be late and at times the bus never arrives, and getting students home on their bus can be unpredictable as well. Middle school students along city bus routes can be seen in the afternoon trying to catch the city bus home.
If you can help, please do.
This is an intolerable situation that merits continued news coverage.
Wow. Starting bus driver pay is catching up to starting law enforcement pay. Who knew. Free health insurance as well? Awesome.
