Sewer repairs cause detour near Chiles Elementary

Press release from Gainesville Regional Utilities

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – GRU has begun the next phase of an emergency sewer line replacement project near Chiles Elementary School. Construction is expected to last two months and require traffic detours, particularly around the Schoolhouse Road roundabout. Pedestrian access along Schoolhouse Road will remain open through the repairs.

GRU has coordinated with Chiles Elementary School administration and local transportation officials to manage traffic flow and minimize disruptions.

These repairs followed a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred in August and revealed deteriorating sewer lines in need of urgent replacement. Over the past several months, GRU has been working to replace these aging lines with modern PVC piping to restore safe and efficient flow and prevent future incidents.

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve our community’s infrastructure.
