Florida beat Texas in the second round of match play to clinch third place in the prestigious tournament.

The Florida women’s golf team completed the East Lake Cup in dominant fashion on Wednesday, claiming four straight matches to clinch the third place spot in the final results.

Freshman Maisie Filler was off to a hot start, going four up through the first nine holes in her first collegiate match play event.

Annabell Fuller led the whole way on the back nine, taking a 2-up lead through the first two holes before her opponent battled back to within one. On the 18th, Fuller again went 2-up as she made the turn. Her momentum carried over into the front nine, claiming victory on both the first and second hole to go 4-up through 11. The sophomore kept her foot on the gas, winning the match by a score of 4&3.

Addie Baggarly and Marina Escobar Domingo found themselves in early fights, flashing between 1-up and tied, but never allowing their opponent to take the lead on the back nine.

Florida clinched the match 4-0-1 with wins from Annabell Fuller (4&3), Marina Escobar Domingo (3&2), Maisie Filler (5&4), and Addie Baggarly (4&3). Clara Manzalini’s match ended with a tie.

  *   Marina Escobar Domingo continued her fall hot streak, posting her best finish at the conclusion of stroke play with a tie for third. She was the only Gator to finish under par during stroke play.
  *   No Gators golfer finished outside of the top-15 individually during stroke play.

Coach’s Take
Emily Bastel Glaser, Head Coach
“You can’t really put a value on the experience we gained this week. This has all the feels of a National Championship from the golf course to the competition and the television coverage. For this team in particular, it was just such an advantage to be able to compete here.”

On South Carolina…
“Yesterday’s match against South Carolina was incredible. Every player played great golf all day, they never gave in. I would argue that South Carolina is one of the best teams in the country. So, for us to see how we can compete with them, especially for our underclassmen, it was just a great day.”

On today’s match…
“Equally as impressive was today’s match against Texas. It would’ve been easy for there to be an emotional letdown after yesterday. But they came out fighting and we got a big win.”

Final thoughts….
“A big thanks to East Lake Golf Club, the East Lake Foundation, The Golf Channel, and all the sponsors and volunteers this week. Just first class all the way around and we are so grateful to have the opportunity to compete here.”
