Woman arrested after allegedly breaking into car and locking her drugs inside, then trying to break car window with rock

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jessica Maria Hord, 41, was arrested yesterday and charged with property damage and drug possession after allegedly breaking into a car, accidentally locking her bag inside the car, then trying to use a rock to break the car window to get back in. She had been released from jail earlier in the day.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the parking lot of Tumblin Creek Park (600 SW Depot Avenue) at about 11:50 a.m. yesterday after a passerby reported that a woman was trying to use a rock to break the window of a car. The caller said he asked her what she was doing, and she said she was trying to “break into the car to try and hide from the devil.”

The officer made contact with Hord about 100 feet from the park, and post-Miranda, she reportedly said she did not own the car but had been inside it. She said she had planned on sleeping in the car and left her bag in it but accidentally locked it as she was getting out.

The officer contacted the owner of the vehicle, who said he did not know Hord and did not give her permission to be in the car. He said nothing appeared to be missing from the car. However, the damage to the car was estimated at about $500.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced a baggie containing about 0.5 grams of “molly.”

Hord has eight felony convictions (none violent) and 12 misdemeanor convictions (one violent). She has served five state prison sentences, with her most recent release in November 2022. She was arrested on May 13, 2023, for drug possession and trespassing in a City park after hours; she entered a plea of nolo contendere to the charges and was sentenced to 180 days in the Alachua County Jail. Jail staff told Alachua Chronicle that Hord was released yesterday after being incarcerated from May 13 to October 8, only 148 days.

Judge Walter Green set bail at $10,000 but noted that Hord may be eligible for release on her own recognizance if she is accepted into the Drug Court program.

  • Crooks and crazies are becoming increasingly brazen about breaking car windows in park parking lots. Recently we were at Sweetwater park in the middle of a heavy-use Saturday when a couple returned to find their car window bashed in. Police were called but couldn’t offer any useful help.

    • Crooks and crazies are becoming more common.
Anyone else thinking city and county leaders should turn off the Welcome and Vacancy signs?

    • It’s really quite sad, and a testament of how these drugs destroy lives and permanently physiologically alter an addicts brain chemistry.

  • What an idiot. She breaks in, then locks her drugs in the car and can’t get back in?
You wonder why these types don’t drown when it’s raining outside.

  • This town needs to be ran by Republicans. It’s like the only blue town in Florida. That’s why it attracts these kind of scumbags. I’m sick of it.

    • Not the only one. If you take a look at the voting blocks, they’re primarily university based populations and people hoping for government handouts.

    • Orange Co. swings blue, and so does Broward. Both s**t-holes. And a few counties up around Tallahassee.

Otherwise this state is crimson red these days. Desantis’s re-election was a literal red wave – Jax, Tampa/ St. Pete, Palm Beach Co., and Miami all went red. Impressive.

  • So an innocent citizen who wanted to enjoy a day at the park has their car smashed. Now the person who did it will be out in the morning with no inconvenience while the owner of the car will have to come up with $500-1000 for a new window. These judges don’t give 1 single damn about us and they make it clear

    • Totally agree with you “Guest” probably not worth calling their car insurance company. Probably $500.00 deductible.
Instead of bond restitution. Work Day Labor until victim paid to hell with Drug Court.

  • Too bad we can’t tell her there’s drugs in judge Green’s car so she can smash his windows and he can deal with smash windows and pay for it himself. But I’m sure somehow the state or county would have to pay for his vehicle. You know, those perks.

  • Someone tell these losers they’ve been conned into staying here, and go anywhere else. Unless we want to set up a free campsite next to the new medical examiners office.
