Woman arrested for attacking romantic rival following funeral service

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Savannah Marie Vasquez, 25, was arrested yesterday afternoon after allegedly attacking a romantic rival after a funeral service.

The victim, who is dating Vasquez’s ex-boyfriend, reportedly told an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy that she and Vasquez had both attended a funeral service on September 24 and that before and after the service, Vasquez had told the victim she wanted to fight her.

The victim reportedly said Vasquez followed her back to her car after the service, and once she was inside her car, Vasquez reached through the window and started punching her in the face. The victim said Vasquez then dragged her out of her car and kept hitting her and that multiple people had to help pull Vasquez off her. Vasquez also allegedly took the victim’s phone after it dropped to the ground during the struggle. A witness corroborated the victim’s account, and her injuries were reportedly consistent with her account.

Vasquez has been charged with burglary with battery and grand theft over $750. Vasquez has one misdemeanor conviction and has been released after posting $15,000 bond.

  • Another misguided soul with no self-control loose in the general population. Nothing will change as it is obvious this adult still reacts without regard to the safety or rights of others. Still, victims could do more such as roll up windows, lock doors, and drive to police. Prevent being victims, when possible, by removing yourselves from dangerous situations when possible. In my 65 years of life, I have never seen so many self-absorbed people committing evil acts of violence against others. Am I just better informed now or are we regressing as a species?

    • I agree but here in FL if you don’t have AC then you don’t roll the windows up, you have to keep them down and most of the people with AC still roll them down when getting in because the average temp of a car in July-Sept is 120+ degrees. I agree but who plans on getting attacked at a funeral? That’s just sad she attacked the current gf of this man who probably died and this story takes away from the real story, someone lost their life. I do plenty to ensure my safety and agree but figured I would lend that little note about the window because that’s how hot FL is during these months.
