Woman arrested for attempted murder after allegedly shooting boyfriend at The Polos

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – K’twona Theresa Frazier-Barr, 30, was arrested early this morning and charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly shooting her boyfriend in the parking lot of The Polos of Gainesville apartment complex.

Video surveillance reportedly shows Frazier-Barr’s car arriving first, around 10 p.m., then the victim’s car arriving about a minute later. The victim got out of his car and got into the front passenger seat of Frazier-Barr’s car and closed the door; both were inside the car for several minutes. Then the video shows three bright flashes inside the car, consistent with gunfire, and Frazier-Barr’s car speeds out of the parking lot with the passenger door open. Frazier-Barr reportedly drove the victim to the hospital, calling 911 on the way. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen and was rushed into surgery, where he remained in critical condition at the time the arrest affidavit was written.

A Gainesville Police Department officer reported that the fingernail on Frazier-Barr’s left pointer finger was broken, and she spontaneously said she is left-handed. She reportedly gave multiple stories about how her nail was broken, including saying that she did not remember how it happened.

Frazier-Barr’s hands tested presumptive positive for gunshot residue. She reportedly said that she had not shot a gun that day and does not touch guns because she is a convicted felon.

Frazier-Barr reportedly told multiple versions of what happened, some of which were inconsistent with the video. She first said that the victim arrived first and that he was shot while walking to her car; she said she ran from her car to hide behind a parked truck and saw a black car speeding away. She said she heard the victim say he had been shot and went back to her car, then drove the victim to the hospital.

Post Miranda, Frazier-Barr reportedly changed her story and said the victim fell into her car immediately after being shot. She said she heard gunshots, smelled gunpowder, and saw the flashes. When she was confronted with the video, she reportedly admitted that the victim got into her car before the shooting and that they had been together in her car for about four minutes. She said they were talking about their relationship because she had heard that the victim was still seeing an ex-girlfriend.

Later in the interview, Frazier-Barr requested a lawyer, so officers stopped questioning her. However, a short time later, she reportedly said she wanted to speak again. After a second reading of Miranda rights, she reportedly admitted that she arrived at The Polos before the victim and admitted he was shot while sitting in her car. She still denied shooting him and said the shooter was standing outside the passenger side of her car. She reportedly said her ex-girlfriend was the most likely suspect because her ex-girlfriend did not want the victim to be with Frazier-Barr.

Frazier-Barr was previously arrested in December 2015 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and property damage after allegedly firing a gun into the air and threatening to shoot someone. She entered a plea of nolo contendere to the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in exchange for a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in state prison. She was released in October 2019.

Frazier-Barr has one felony conviction (one violent). Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $1 million.
