Governor Ron DeSantis announces state employees will receive an extra day off for Independence Day weekend

Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that state offices will be closed on Friday, July 5, 2024, in celebration of Independence Day weekend.

“I am proud to reward our state employees,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Following another historic legislative session that delivered tax breaks and record investments for Floridians—all while reducing spending—I hope our state employees use this additional time off to enjoy Florida’s Freedom Summer with their loved ones and celebrate America.”

State offices will close on July 5th in addition to regular office closures on July 4th commemorating Independence Day. State office closures will create a four-day holiday weekend and will benefit nearly 100,000 people in the State Personnel System.

  • Just adding another day that the State of Florida doesn’t work and citizens cannot get their business done. Do something about the high cost of home owners and auto insurance!!!!!

    • Frivolous litigation has more to do with the costs of insurance than DeSantis and the State Legislature do.
May want to petition the large number of local attorneys to stop with the ambulance chasing. Not much financial benefit for doing pro bono work.

    • They need to start arresting or fining the contractors and homeowners who game the insurance system and get free re-roofs, etc. Those homeowners either don’t know or don’t care that us normal people end up paying for their costs via our rate increases. That scam is insanely popular with low life crowd.

  • Interesting – wonder if local (i.e. Alachua County/Gainesville) will follow suit.

    • Sure they will never let a add-on go to waste especially if it gets people out of work and paid too.
