24-year-old Hawthorne woman injured in Saturday morning Campville crash has died

Florida Highway Patrol has released additional information on yesterday’s accident on U.S. Hwy 301.

The accident occurred at 9:23 a.m. on April 16 when a Chevy HHR, traveling south on U.S. Hwy 301 in the Campville area, lost control and traveled in a southeasterly direction, crossing the grassy median into the northbound lanes of Hwy 301. The HHR, driven by a 27-year-old Hawthorne man, crossed into the path of a box truck pulling a trailer, and the two vehicles collided. The passenger in the HHR, a 24-year-old Hawthorne woman, had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver of the HHR was transported to UF Health Shands in serious condition, and the passenger was transported in critical condition; she died this afternoon.
